PROJECT ADEPT

Project ADEPT has three purposes:
  • To prevent truancy
  • To intervene in truancy cases
  • To retrieve dropouts and get them back in school

The goal of the program is to ensure that more students receive the education program they will need in order to become responsible citizens. The prevention phase targets students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Incentive based attendance contests and guest speakers extolling the benefits of school attendance will be used. The intervention phase will employ a variety of remediative strategies in existing cases of truancy. Staff will work with the students and their families to remove any and all barriers to attendance. Project ADEPT will work in cooperation with all schools in Knox County in an effort to meet the needs of each child showing signs of being at risk for truancy. They will work in tandem with existing outreach services provided by each school. The dropout retrieval phase will seek individuals who have recently dropped out of school and channel them into an educational program. This can take the shape of a high school or alternative school, the GED program or other options.
