About AmeriCorps VISTA:
Throughout 2015, we recognized 50 years of Volunteers In Service To America. VISTA was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs.
Today, more than 46 million Americans live in poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA taps the skills, talents and passion of more than 7,000 Americans annually to support community efforts to overcome poverty.AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
Educational Outreach Coordinator for Warren County
The Educational Outreach Coordinator will develop new and enhance existing services for truancy prevention and generate new services for youth at risk of becoming truant. Also, the Educational Outreach Coordinator will assist on community awareness of the educational services that can be accessed through the Regional Office of Education. This volunteer will also be instrumental in the generation of funds for educational programs in the areas of truancy, early childhood education, and family literacy.
Educational Outreach Coordinator for Knox County
Same as above position but serving in Knox County
Intercultural Outreach Coordinator for Warren County
The Intercultural Outreach Coordinator will increase the capacity of organizations to support literacy education for predominantly immigrant students. The services provided include language education, acclimation support, higher education preparedness, and citizen education. The Intercultural Outreach Coordinator will build resources and partnerships with community stakeholders and increase overall community infrastructure to support the needs of this demographic.
