KNOX COUNTY SCHOOL CRISIS ASSISTANCE TEAM

We hope that we will never have a major crisis at any school, but we need to be ready to respond in the event of such an incident. For this reason,  the Knox County School Crisis Assistance Team (SCAT) has been created. SCAT is part of a statewide network of SCAT's which can be utilized by Illinois schools for assistance during and following a violent or other traumatic incident within the school community or on school grounds. The National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) provided training to representatives of the 46 educational service regions in Illinois.

The SCAT is not a first responder, but comes within 24 hours at the request of school officials in order to help assist the many witnesses and survivors deal with the impact of a traumatic event. SCAT members are not counselors, but receive training in the NOVA model for helping people work through the aftermath of a crisis.

This team is currently being reorganized to better serve Knox County.  Prospective members will be required to attend an initial training, as well as, additional trainings throughout the year.
