SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

ILLINOIS RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Illinois Retired Teachers Assocation is offering six $1500 scholarships, one in each of the six IRTA areas, to residents of Illinois. Anyone who is or will be a junior or senior in college and has been accepted into a Teacher Certification Program may apply. Attendance at an Illinois college or university is not a requirement, but the applicant must be a resident of Illinois.

GEORGE MANGIARACINA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The George Mangiaracina Memorial Scholarship is open to any applicant pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's Degree at an Illinois community college or an Illinois university. Applicants will have to submit a short essay and a completed information sheet. Deadline for application is June 1, 2005.

ROSELLA PETERS GOODWILL SCHOLARSHIP

The $500 Rosella Peters Goodwill Scholarship is offered to all citizens of Galesburg, Illinois except the children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews of Rosella Peters.

Applications are available at the Carver Community Action Agency and are due by 3:30 PM Friday, June 24, 2005 at the CCAA, 235 E. Main St., Galesburg, IL 61401.

CARVER COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY SCHOLARSHIP

Three $1,000 Community Service Block Grant program scholarships are available from the Carver Community Action Agency to any Knox County eligible citizen desiring to further their educational training at an Illinois accredited two-year community college, vocational school, or four-year pulibc or private college or universtity. This is a competitive scholarship program and applicants must submit an entire application package for review by May 19, 2005 at 4:00 PM.

KARYN BRODINE MEMORIAL ART TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP

The $500 scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of a Knoxville art teacher, Karyn Brodine.  The recipient should be a student from a Knox County High School with plans of becoming an art teacher.

ALONG WITH YOUR APPLICATION PLEASE SUBMIT:
Two letters of recommendation (one from a teacher and one from a non-family member)
A copy of your official letter of acceptance from the educational institution you will be attending

GENERAL CRITERIA

  • Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA after 7 completed semesters
  • Be in the upper half of the graduating class
  • Plans to attend an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Exhibit good character and dependability
