TEACHER CERTIFICATION AND CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION
New teachers in Knox County can apply for an Initial Teaching Certificate at the ROE. Applicants must have their official transcripts and entitlement applications sent to the Knox County Regional Office of Education and pay the $20 registration fee. The Initial Teaching Certificate is good for four years. After the four-year period, a professional development plan will have to be completed before a candidate can apply for a Standard Teaching Certificate.
Teachers currently teaching in Knox County on a Standard Teaching Certificate can renew their certificates for five years for a $25 fee. Once the certificate is renewed, the teacher will have to submit a professional development plan to their district's Local Professional Development Committee. The teacher will then have five years to complete their plan. For the professional development plan form and help in filling it out teachers can choose one of the following options:

COMPLIANCE REVIEW
This is a review of school district facilities, staff qualifications, policies and procedures to determine compliance with school code on a broad spectrum of issues. The compliance review has three components:
- Health/Life Safety Inspection of every school building is conducted each Fall and Spring.
- An inspection of personnel files for all certified employees and aides takes place each year.
- A check of policy, procedure, curriculum and access to services is conducted on a rotating basis each year.
BUS DRIVER TRAINING
Initial and refresher courses are offered on an as needed basis during the school year and are regularly scheduled in June and July. For more information, contact the Knox County ROE (309) 345-3828.
TRAINING OF FOOD SERVICE WORKERS
Each year, workshops are offered for supervisors, cooks, and cook helpers. These workshops are scheduled as the need arises. The trainings cover topics such as diet and nutrition, food storage, and completing the paperwork required by reimbursement programs.
